What Stoppelkade sent us
Dutch beard care made in small batches. There are ten products from €14.95 to €34.95: beard oils, balms, a beard shampoo, a moustache wax and a trial set. Stoppelkade sells through its own webshop and five Dutch barbershops. It wants Amazon in Germany first, then the Netherlands.
Our verdict
Amazon.de can work for Stoppelkade, but not quickly. Do not bring the full range or a big advertising budget yet. Test three products at a price that holds, with advertising capped from day one.
Hello,
Thank you for requesting a Brand Review for Stoppelkade. Below is what we see, what we could not see, and what we would do first. Where the answer is "no" or "not yet", we say so.
What we measured and what we did not
We measured the beard-oil category on Amazon.de on 29 September 2026. The market figures are estimates from our own market data. Amazon does not publish sales, so we work them out from what is publicly visible. Read them as an order of magnitude. Stoppelkade is not on Amazon yet, so the figures describe other brands. They are not a forecast for Stoppelkade.
We did not measure Amazon.nl, the other Amazon stores or bol.com for this example. A real review measures Amazon.nl the same way: whether you are there, the price level, and how crowded the category is. The fees come from Amazon's public fee pages on the same day. Where we assume something, we say so.
Which marketplaces fit, and in what order
Amazon.de Measured: beard oil sells an estimated €133,000 a month, about 10,000 units. That is about €2.3 million over the past twelve months. An estimated 103 brands sell 263 products. The average listed price is about €21, in line with Stoppelkade's €21.95.
Amazon.nl Not measured: not measured in this example.
Other Amazon stores Not measured: outside this review.
Team judgement, not a measurement: for bol.com, Kaufland and Allegro, this is what our team expects from its own selling experience. We have not measured Stoppelkade there.
- bol.com (Netherlands and Belgium) Team judgement: we would try it here. Our team sells in this category itself, and demand is there all year. Keeping stock at bol shortens delivery and usually lifts sales.
- Kaufland (mainly Germany) Team judgement: we would try it here. Our team sees steady demand. German texts and a German returns solution come first.
- Allegro (Poland and neighbouring countries) Team judgement: we would try it here. It has room for brands that are not yet sold everywhere. Texts and customer contact must be in Polish, and your stock goes to Poland.
Our order: Amazon.de first. Then Amazon.nl and bol.com together, as the home-market step. Kaufland or Allegro come after that. Why: Germany is where you want to start and where we could measure demand. At home, Stoppelkade already reaches buyers through its webshop and the barbershops. Each extra country needs its own stock, translations and VAT paperwork. That pays off only once the country before it sells.
What one bottle leaves after VAT and Amazon's fees
One product: Baardolie Ceder, 30 ml, on Amazon.de, shipped by Amazon from Germany.
| Per bottle | Amount | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Price the customer pays | €21.95 | Assumed: same as the webshop |
| German VAT (19%) | −€3.50 | Official rate: €21.95 − €21.95 ÷ 1.19 |
| Amazon's sales fee (15% for beauty) | −€3.29 | Amazon's fee page: 15% of the price including VAT |
| Amazon's shipping fee (large envelope, up to 4 cm thick) | −€3.09 | Rate card from 1 July 2026, "Large envelope", DE only: €3.04, plus the 1.5% surcharge. Packed size assumed: 3.8 × 3.8 × 11 cm, 125 g |
| Left after VAT and Amazon's fees | €12.07 |
How the shipping fee is worked out. We assume the packed bottle measures 3.8 × 3.8 × 11 cm and weighs 125 g: a 30 ml dropper bottle in a folding box. That fits the "Large envelope" row of Amazon's European rate card in force since 1 July 2026 (up to 33 × 23 × 4 cm and 960 g). With the stock in German warehouses (also an assumption), the DE-only fee in that row is €3.04. Amazon adds a 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge; the rate card does not say whether it is included, so we add it: €3.04 × 1.015 = €3.09. In full: €21.95 − €3.50 − €3.29 − €3.09 = €12.07.
Whose money this is. €12.07 is what one bottle leaves after VAT and Amazon's fees. It is not Stoppelkade's margin or payout. In our model we sell on our own accounts and buy each bottle from the brand at the moment it sells, at a price agreed in the plan. So the €12.07 has to cover advertising, our work and the price we pay Stoppelkade per bottle sold.
Advertising takes much of what is left. A click on "bartöl" costs an estimated €0.64 to €1.06. We assume 1 in 10 clicks buys. On that assumption, a sale through an ad costs €6.40 to €10.60. That leaves €1.47 to €5.67 per bottle for our work and the price we pay Stoppelkade. On "bartöl herren" (€1.06 to €1.54 a click), an ad sale can cost more than the €12.07.
The price must also hold. The category earns an estimated €13 per bottle sold, well below the €21 average listed price, so much of the volume goes to cheaper products. Stoppelkade has to give buyers a reason to pay more.
Smaller costs: storage is under €0.01 per bottle per month, and the seller account is €39 a month excluding VAT. A box thicker than 4 cm moves up to the "Extra-large envelope" row (DE only €3.42, with the surcharge €3.47 instead of €3.09), which adds €0.38 per bottle.
Not in this table: returns, inbound freight and the German registrations; who pays them is agreed in the plan before launch. Stoppelkade's own margin follows only from the price we agree per bottle and Stoppelkade's own costs, so this example gives no margin figure.
What we would do first
- Paperwork and packaging first. Stock in German warehouses needs a German VAT registration. Amazon.de blocks listings without a German packaging registration number. The label needs the information German law requires in German (use, warnings, contents, shelf life). Keep the packed bottle within 4 cm. Reason: nothing else can start until this is done.
- Three products, not ten, with capped advertising. Start with three 30 ml oils. Set a maximum per click: at 1 in 10 clicks buying, every €0.10 per click costs €1 per sale. Reason: the top three products take about half the purchases after a search for "bartöl". A newcomer pays for visibility, and that is where much of the €12.07 goes.
- Then the home market: Amazon.nl and bol.com. Reuse the German pages and photos with the webshop's Dutch texts. Reason: the Dutch customers and texts already exist, so once Germany sells, this step mostly needs stock.
What would have to change
- Not yet: demand is not growing. The category's estimated revenue and searches for "bartöl" are both a little lower than a year ago. A new brand's sales would come from brands already there.
- Not yet: large sellers hold much of the category. About 37% of the category's estimated revenue goes to products sold by Amazon itself. Large beauty houses such as L'Oréal Men Expert, American Crew and Rituals sell next to small specialists. The average product has been listed for more than five years, with about 2,600 reviews and 4.4 stars. A new product starts at zero.
- The page must earn the price. In German, it has to show why Stoppelkade is worth more: what is in it, where it is made, and that barbershops use it.
Caveats
This is a snapshot of what was publicly visible on 29 September 2026. The twelve-month estimate is well above twelve times the current month, so some months sell more than September; we have not measured which. The fees are Amazon's published rates (rate card in force from 1 July 2026). They are not our own rates and not an offer. Decisions rest on your real figures, and they are yours.
If it is a fit, you talk to the people who would run the daily work.
Kind regards,
K6 Trading
